Your diversions, distractions, and, as of yet, lack of any terrible disasters have interested me very much, probably because I, too, have fairly recently retired from a career in education and am struggling to find my place in the retirement world. You have talent in art. I try my hand at writing. It will be interesting to see how we continue to navigate this new stage of life–thank you for sharing your experiences!
Thanks Joyce.
You should start a blog and chart your journey too.
Thank you for saying such nice things about my art. I am enjoying it and I truly think that is what really matters. Sharing it with others is just a bit of fun. If ever I get any good at this I am sure I will feel so embarrassed at advertising my early floundering! However, I really don’t think I have much to worry about…..
Jenny,
I’m not a fine art critic, but your watercolors are lovely. Keep at it!
I DO plan to start a blog–maybe not all about myself, but about the various ways people have decided to invent retirements for themselves. So far I’ve found that there are as many choices as there are retirees. Since my husband and I are still struggling to decide the best choice for us, a blog may let me think through the ideas and hear thoughts from others.
With your approval, I’ll link your site to mine. You are definitely busy, productive, and goal oriented.
A blog about inventing retirements sounds eally great and I would be honoured to have a link to my blog. There is so much else I would love to do, for example:
- walk the coast
- wood turning
- some work for a charity – I am working on this
- write books – non fiction. I have the ideas but not the time!
Let me know how you get on. Keep in touch.
Hi Jenny
I admire your many ‘Distractions and Diversions’. How do you find time to do all these? I find retirement is a full time job what with grand-children, numerous job offers (still do occasional short-term ultra-deepwater exploration work), my sporting activities (running), DIY, gardening, travel, etc – need I continue with more!! In retirement the main thing is to keep active for a prolonged life. I certainly believe that.
It’s a pity you won’t be able to make the ‘Class of 71′ graduation reunion next month. In the meantime good luck building up for your 5km run.
