I started Watercolour classes in January 2011. This is a diary of what I get up to in the lessons during the term and since.
Back garden – Keble Street
Easter cards
The beech in early Spring morning sunshine
Double Arched Bridge on the Leeds Liverpool canal
Brighton Pavilion
Still life at art class today
Tried to create something relaxed and not too fussy.
August 2011
Started these Sweet Peas yesterday evening and finished them today. I grew them from seed in my greenhouse. I love sweet peas yet these are the first I have ever grown. They are trying to climb the trellis work along the edge of the vegetable plot.

3rd August 2011
Birthday card for Brigitte

Seascapes for some greetings cards

27th July 2011
View of Skye from near Applecross in Scotland. Nearly gave up on this and could do with working on the foreground more but I think I am ready to move on.

June 2011
Yacht off the West Scottish Coast near Torridon.

April 2011
New version of crocuses for R and Easter cards.

5th April 2011
We have been indulging ourselves in life drawings, using charcoal and pencil but last week I went back to my work on a picture of Brighton Pavilion, which is proving more than challenging so no progress to report on this yet! To get back to something possibly more achievable I have had a go at painting some crocuses:

2nd March 2011
Teacher bought in a pot of plants and I thought I would have a go at a more relaxed feel. I am quite pleased with the result which I think gives a good sense of what was there without detailed analysis of each flower and leaf. the plants were rather low and there was not a lot of shape to the whole arrangement. Double click on the image to see a ‘better’ view of it.

Another attempt at a landscape with trees. Used a book for ideas

Practising trees

15-02-2011
Landscape with trees from photograph. Pleased with my first real attempt at trees with dry brush, sky and distant hills but foreground is pretty rubbish:

Lesson 3
Forgot my photo to continue last week’s work so started on something new. I wanted to think about trees, sky and improving my washes. This is stage 1.

Ruth lent me a book so that I can practice.
Lesson 2
Started to copy a photo and thinking hard about washes:

Here is the photo I am working from:

Lesson 1
Once we did all the admin there was not too much time but Ruth showed us how to do a wash by creating a sky. We were invited to add some trees:

I love the flowers! x
Watercolours look great!
